    Description

Frankenstein or The Modern Prometheus is a well-known horror novel by Mary Shelley. The novel was written during the summer of 1815 at Lake Geneva, which Shelley had to spend largely indoors due to the bad weather caused by the eruption of the Indonesian volcano Tambora. To escape boredom, she and the other residents of the villa each wrote a horror story and recited it to one another. Three years later, on January 1st 1818, Frankenstein was published in London. The plot of Mary Shelley’s novel is centred on a Swiss student, Viktor Frankenstein, who creates an artificial human being at the University of Ingolstadt. This creature - Frankenstein's monster - escapes from its creator and kills Frankenstein's family over the next few years. When Viktor Frankenstein dies while chasing the monster in the ice deserts of the Arctic, the creature realises its bad deeds and takes its own life. Frankenstein’s monster has been featured in countless films, first 1910 in the famous American short silent film Frankenstein. Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein is considered one of the most important British novels and it is one of the best-known titles in the horror genre. With this NFT, Mary Shelley and her famous monster story become part of the world of digital originals.
