    Description

The Hound of the Baskervilles, written by Arthur Conan Doyle in 1901, is one of the most well-known Sherlock Holmes novels. Famous for the return of Sherlock Holmes after his death in 1893, the story takes place before his demise and tells the legend of a ghostly hound in the moors at Baskerville Hall. To protect the heir Sir Henry Baskerville, after his father Sir Charles is found surprisingly dead, the detective sends his assistant Dr. Watson for an investigation. But the strange events seem to continue, until Sherlock Holmes appears and sheds light on the mystery. Rather than the typical detective adventures The Hound of the Baskervilles has more of a mysterious nature and focuses on the return of Sherlock Holmes as the main character of the series. So far, more than 20 film and TV adaptations have been made in several different countries around the world. The book has been listed as one of the 100 most influential novels by the BBC and is one of the most famous stories ever written.

    Arthur Conan Doyle

The Scottish writer Arthur Conan Doyle is best known for creating the fictional character Sherlock Holmes. His first novel A Study in Scarlet, about the most prominent figure in English literature was published 1887 in Beeton’s Christmas Annual. Doyle, who studied medicine at that time, transferred a lot of his own character traits to Holmes’s infamous assistant Dr. Watson, whereas Holmes himself was inspired by his professor Joseph Bell. In the year 1893 he put an end to the series, which his readers heavily protested about. But Doyle did not bring him back until he wrote the novel The Hound of the Baskervilles. The last anthology

The Casebook of Sherlock Holmes was published in 1927. Arthur Conan Doyle died three years later due to a heart attack in his own home in Crowborough, Sussex.
