    Description

Paradise Lost is John Milton's most famous work, an epic poem for which - although already famous at that time - he only found a publisher two years after completing it, in 1667. Already as a young man, John Milton intended to create a great epic, but he could not pursue this dream until he was over 50 years old. Paradise Lost is influenced by John Milton's political activities, especially the failure of the English Civil War (1642–1651). He only escaped the death sentence by being granted an amnesty. Paradise Lost deals with the eternal struggle between heaven and hell, between God and Satan. In twelve books, the temptation of Adam and Eve and Satan's fall into hell are sung about. The epic poem was so well received that ist was sold almost twice as often as Shakespeare's works in the 18th century.

    John Milton

John Milton was an English poet of the 17th century who already became famous during his lifetime. From an early age, his father prepared him to study literature and he obtained a Master of Arts degree in 1632. In addition to literature, he devoted himself to politics: he was a civil servant and is considered an influential, though controversial, early Enlightenment thinker. He gained notoriety with the Areopagitica (1644), a tract addressed to the English Parliament against the pre-censorship of printing introduced in 1643. He thus became one of the pioneers of freedom of the press. His best-known literary work is the epic poem Paradise Lost (1667), which still has an influence on literature today. With this NFT, John Milton will also be present in the future development of the literary industry.
