Kahn holds a medical degree from the University of Chicago. He completed his postgraduate training with a concentration in Emergency Medicine at Los Angeles County + USC Medical Center (LAC+USC) and the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA).
His original works include three novels in the New World Trilogy: World Enough, and Time (1980), Time's Dark Laughter (1982), and Timefall (1987).
He not only novelized Star Wars: Return of the Jedi, he also wrote the novelizations of the blockbuster films Poltergeist, The Goonies, and Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom.
He was also a screenwriter-producer for popular television series such as Melrose Place and Star Trek: Voyager.
